What information do you need when enquiring about ordering a cake?
The most important piece of information I need is what date the cake is required for so that I can check my availabilty. An idea of how many portions you are likely to need is also very useful and if you have a theme, colour or design in mind. Please also let me know if the occasion is on a certain date but you require the cake to be collected or delivered on a different earlier date.
How much notice do you need?
As much as you can possibly give me. Some dates get booked up quite far in advance and some dates are so popular I could book them many times over. There is only one of me and only so may cakes I can make in a week so there is a limit to how many orders I can take on. There is no such thing as too much notice. If you know that you are going to want me to make a cake for a special occasion then let me know as soon as you do and for £10 you can reserve the date. We can make decisions about the design etc, nearer the time.
Do you deliver?
Yes I deliver locally free of charge but there may be an additional fee for delivery depending on distance. This will be discussed at the time of booking.
Is there any advice you can give me if I collect my cake?
It is recommended that cake orders are best placed either in the passenger footwell or boot for travelling with so please make sure these are either empty or that there is nothing that will fall over onto the cake box. Do not place on a seat or travel with the cake on someone's lap. Drive carefully especially around corners and make sure you brake gently.
Do you have cakes available for immediate purchase?
I'm afraid not. I provide a bespoke service making cakes to order. I may be able to fit in a last minute cake order if I have availability but will need a minimum of 3 days notice.
Are you able to work to a budget?
Yes,to a certain degree. My cake prices are determined by the cake size, complexity of the design and decorations used so please let me know when placing the order if you have a budget in mind. Typically my smallest 6" round cakes which are approximately 12 portions start at £100. I generally try to offer 2 or 3 designs within different price ranges to hopefully suit your budget.
Cost is dependent on design. Flowers and models cost extra, as does a sculpted cake. Car cakes are one of the designs that I get requested to quote for most often but these are probably one of the most time intensive cakes to make. There is a lot of work involved carving the cake to the right shape and a huge amount of details that have to be made and added to get it to look just right. Therefore these will start at £250.
I've seen a cake I like on Google/Facebook/instagram. Can you make it for me?
If you've seen any designs you like then please send me the images so I can get an idea of the kind of thing you are after. I don't like to copy a design exactly and would much prefer to come up with a design that is unique but I can take elements from other cakes or make something similar.
Can you make vegan, gluten free, dairy free and/or nut free cakes?
I don't make vegan cakes at present as I haven't found a reliable recipe that I trust yet. I can make other dietary cakes but only where there is slight intolerance not for a severe allergy. I can make gluten/dairy/nut free cakes using the appropriate free-from products but the cakes will be made in a kitchen where gluten, dairy and nuts are used. A disclaimer will need to be signed if you decide to go ahead.
Do you offer cake tastings?
Only for wedding cake orders. I will arrange a consultation to discuss the design and this will include a cake tasting for up to 4 flavours. The cost of this is £30 but if you decide to go ahead with the order, this cost will be deducted from the final total.
How do I pay for my cake order?
The preferred payment method is by bank transfer. I ask for a 50% deposit when placing the order for the cake with the remaining 50% balance due a week before the cake is required. I will send you my bank details by WhatsApp or email. The date for your order will not be booked until a deposit payment has been made. If you cannot pay by bank transfer then I will accept cash but the same terms apply.
How should I store my cake?
Keep it in a cool room and out of direct sunlight. Never refrigerate your cake and do not leave in your car or garage overnight. If it is very cold this can cause condensation which can make the icing sticky which can potentially damage the cake.
Can I freeze any leftover cake?
Yes you can. Your cake is most likely to have been frozen as part of the decorating process but cakes can be safely refrozen and defrosted multiple times.
